Nicola's pressure and technique was excellent and felt intuitive. She knew where pain was coming from and how tightness in other areas might be impacting the scar itself. She has a fabulous personality and made me feel at ease. My head feels so much lighter
ScarWork Therapy

There are so many of us who undergo surgery, have had serious accidents leaving us with scar tissue or suffered burns. For so many, scars may leave a feeling of tightness, discomfort, numbness, a sensititivty or we may hold a lot of emotion and trauma towards the scar. Fortunately for some, whilst they may not notice any physical discomfort, they will still benefit from massage therapy as part of their rehabilitation, structural or soft tissue treatment.
ScarWork therapy can help loosen and release tight scar tissue to reduce discomfort and increase mobility of the area of skin or nearby joints. I have found treatment to be incredibly beneficial on both new and old scar tissue, regaining sensation on scars as old as 65 years.
One of the most frequent treatments is to rediuce tightness, encourage mobility between the layers of skin, fascia and muscle, and then this can help the range of movement and overall sense of wellbeing for the client. The approach is incredibly light touch, and no pain or discomfort is experienced. The results, even on older scar tissue can be quite outstanding, and the emotional connection with this release quite profound.
I provide a gentle intuitive therapeutic touch as this can be powerful way to help the emotional recovery after surgery or a trauma.
ScarWork is often recommended by surgeons, midwives and GP's to promote optimum scar healing after surgery. It is known for minimising long term complications (such as adhesions, reducing numbness, reduced movement) and helping to make a more fulfilled recovery.
I have extensive experience working with scars across the whole body, specialising in particular with Breast, Pelvic and Abdominal Scarring in women, and Skin Grafting.
ScarWork is used in conjuction with other massage therapy techniques, or as a treatment on it's own.
If this describes you or someone you know, I am confident I can help.
